The TCCC Advisory Board is a carefully selected team of individuals affliated with the Tibetans for a number of years and also have wide range of experiences which is valuable to the success of this project. We are in the initial stage of forming our Board of Advisors and as we receive commitment from more individuals, we will list them here.
SENATOR CONSIGLIO DI NINO
Consiglio Di Nino (born January 24, 1938) is a businessman and Canadian Senator.
Born in Italy, Di Nino immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 13. He attended St Michael's College School in Toronto before going to the University of Toronto and York University.
Beginning as a bank teller in 1955, Di Nino rose to a management position at the Toronto-Dominion Bank and eventually became an executive at Realty Capital Corporation. In 1979, he founded and became CEO of Cabot Trust (which eventually became Cabot Capital Corporation). He left in 1991 to become a consultant in the financial sector.
In 1990, Di Nino was appointed to the Senate on the recommendation of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. He sat as a Progressive Conservative until 2004 when he and most of his Tory colleagues joined the Conservative Party of Canada.
One of Di Nino's interests in the Senate has been the status of Tibet. Di Nino has has been an ardent supporter for the Tibetan cause and is currently the Co-Chair of the Parliamentary friends of Tibet in Ottawa.
Di Nino has also been heavily involved in the Italian-Canadian community as past chair of Villa Charities Incorporated (a charity founded by the Italian-Canadian business community), past president of the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association, Villa Colombo Home for the Aged and the Columbus Centre of Toronto. He also served as president of Harbourfront Corporation, a federal agency responsible for Toronto's waterfront.
Along with his political career, Di Nino has also volunteered with many charity organizations. In 2007, Senator Di Nino has part of the TCCC Board of Directors and has been instrumental in shaping the future of the cultural centre.
Chris Banigan was born in Toronto in 1955. He first visited Asia in 1972 and was lucky enough to encounter some of the elder generation of Tibetans such as Yongdzin Ling Rinpoche, the 16th Karmapa Rangjung Rikpe Dorje, Khyabje Dilgo Khyentse and others. Just as impressive however, are the everyday people one meets in the Himalayan countryside, so quick to smile and make a joke often despite the hardship of their circumstances. He studied with both Karma Gardri and Menri tradition painters in India and Nepal. He met most of the group of Tibetans that first settled in Canada in the 70's and was happy to help in any capacity with the first visit to Toronto of H.H. the Dalai Lama in 1980 and each visit subsequently.
CHRIS BANIGAN
Over the past couple of years, Chris has been closely working with the Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario and volunteering his time in designing booklets, brochures and any artwork required by the organization. One of his remarkable designs is the logo for the Kalachakra for World Peace bestowed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama held in Toronto in the year 2004.
Employed by two of the world's largest advertising agencies for twelve years as well as with small studios both in graphic art and photography. Chris now works independently mostly with Snow Lion Publications for whom he has designed and illustrated over 150 books in the field of Tibetan studies, including linguistics and Bon topics, thus to some extent combining the old world with the new.
WILL SUTHERLAND
Will Sutherland held a number of positions as an investment counsellor in the financial services industry. His philanthropic endeavours include the promotion of Tibetan religious traditions.
